First Web Design Client

I have my first job designing a website. I actually had to let that sink in for a few minutes. The site is for a photographer in Florida. Got the concepts finished and sent out the end of last week. I received an email today with their choice.

So I had a couple of constraints to work with, it had to be black and some shade of gray to work with the silver on his business card. Oh yeah, and elegant. So this is the design he approved.

1st Wedding Shoot

I recently photographed my first wedding. The groom was a friend's son, whom I've known since he was five or six years old. Hard to believe he's old enough to have his own family.

What was the biggest lesson I learned about wedding photography? Talk to the wedding planner and find out how much time you're going to have for posed photos after the ceremony. Trust me, 15 minutes just isn't enough time. No lights to compensate for shadows thrown on the people in back. The fix? Don't put people in back. I'll come back and post a few of my favorites when I'm done editing.

The other thing I learned, I don't like Florida in August. It wasn't the heat that got to me so much as the humidity.

Trees

One of the assignments we had in electronic artistry was to draw a stylized tree. It was really late at night. I was tired to the point of silliness and a Traveler's Insurance commercial came on. There was my inspiration for the umbrella. I'm ready to try it again and fill out the picture a little more. Here's the original. I'll probably draw a different tree.

Mother's Day Camera Fun

I spent Mother's Day with friends and my camera. If you shoot a lot of photos, there just has to be a few good ones. Here are a couple.

Finding My Voice

Looking for who I am as a designer, photographer, etc. Towards that end, I've begun a flickr group of my own I'm calling "Finding My Voice." I'm shooting random photos as the mood strikes. There may be no relationship between them beyond I thought it was interesting at the time. Here's one of them.

Presentations

It was awful. The stuff of nightmares. I forgot everything I ever learned about how to stay focused (have notes) and how to gracefully end a speech.... Not "I don't know what else to say" over and over and... Just shoot me. Repeatedly, until achieving the desired results. I wanted to find a really big hole (Mammoth Cave is about right), crawl inside and hide. For a very long time.

Commencement Exercises

What a day! I made it both up and down the stage stairs without falling. Family and friends were both there cheering me on. And what was up with that barefoot guy?
